Music: Making Sounds

Welcome to the ever evolving adventures of the professional procrastinator Matthew Binamira Sanders. I bet you didn’t think I would post another blog so soon, absolutely unprecedented, we’re just constantly breaking boundaries over here at Mabisa incorporated. Anyways, welcome back and thanks for reading in general, and if you’re new, i’m sorry in advance for the chaotic writing you will indeed read from now on.

But yeah, i’ve been making sounds, more specifically musical sounds with my guitar and computer. Back when I first started posting on my blog, I had gotten a new guitar and began learning how to play and be able to play more than just “Mary had a little lamb.” To be honest that song is pretty iconic, and I still don’t really know how to play it.

But yeah since September of last year i’ve been learning how to play the guitar and learning how to record some stuff in Garage Band. Back in college I took some MIDI courses, so I knew a little bit about audio production but if i’m going to be honest with you, I never really actually paid any attention, so I pretty much had to learn everything from scratch. But I’ve been doing it, and i’m happy to say that i’ve gotten pretty mediocre at it. Which is a pretty nice accomplishment in itself.

Yeah, but like the whole experience of learning how to play guitar and learning to make “music” has been really interesting and fun. I’ve kinda been stuck on playing the same chords over and over again but i’ve been trying to learn more intermediate stuff so that I can make things sounds cooler and more competent. I kinda wanted to write this little blog post as kind of an update to my whole “musical journey” as I like to call it because it’s another place where I express myself and release a lot of my stress. Like just being able to play the guitar and listen and focus on the sounds just releases so much tension in my head. I highly recommend learning to play some sort of sound production thing, it’s just really cool, and it makes you look cool!

All that aside, I did actually make some “songs” I think I am ready to share. I mean they are pretty rough around the edges and I don’t think i’ll go back and fix them up at all. I like the roughness of them, I don’t wanna take away from that. But yeah, these two songs are my babies, and completely original from me playing my guitar and my MIDI keyboard on my laptop and Garage Band. They don’t really have names but they still hold a near and dear place in my heart. There is a song that I am currently working on that I am really excited about so look forward to that. But for now, here are those two songs I was talking about.

Yeah So that was the first proper track I made in Garage Band involving my own guitar playing and MIDI playing. To be honest it’s really rough around the edges and there are a lot of spots where I start playing out of time, but I mean it’s still pretty okay. I mean I don’t really like it all that much though. My main problems with it are the different sound levels of the different instruments. It feels like the guitar is very prevalent whereas everything else is kinda just chilling in the background. But I mean as a whole, not the worse thing ever. I think my favorite part about it is the second half of the song where I change up the melody and kind of get more up beat and in time.

This track is probably my favorite out of the two. Mostly because I took what I learned from the first one and applied it to creating this second one. I tried my best in making sure all of the sounds kind of mixed in together rather than my guitar being too too prevalent. I also really do like the kind of Hozier vibe i’m getting from this track. I’m kind of transferring between genres to see what I like making the most but to be honest I like a lot of different genres, so i’ll probably just make music that can fit everywhere. But yeah I pretty much like every part of this track, I wish I added some sort of solo into this one like I did at the end of the first track but I think it still sounds pretty good without it. But yeah overall, not too bad.

So yeah, theres my first musical update that has been long overdue, but that’s where I am at. I am currently working on this track that I’m pretty excited for, it’s kinda got emo punk vibes mixed with bedroom pop kinda. I don’t know but it’s kinda interesting. But yeah, maybe i’ll try to finish that this week, who knooooows?? Definitely not me. But yeah, thank you again for those of you who made it this far, comment anything you like and feel free to hit me up if you wanna sing on anything I create in the future cause I can’t sing. Anyways, stay lit 🔥
